Research Methodology Seminar (January 30th, 2025)
Thursday, Feb 13, 2025
The Research Methodology Seminar featuring Dr. Jimmy de la Torre (University of Hong Kong) was a resounding success, drawing over 60 participants both in person and online. Attendees included faculty, researchers, and students not only from FAU but also from FSU, UF, USF, University of Miami, University of Delaware, and the Palm Beach County School District.
Dr. de la Torre’s talk showcased cutting-edge approaches to assessment, emphasizing how modern psychometrics, AI, and cognitive diagnosis modeling can more precisely capture students’ strengths and areas for growth. By leveraging advanced psychometric modeling and innovative measurement frameworks, his research provides actionable insights to personalize instruction, enhance learner engagement, and foster more effective educational outcomes.
In addition to highlighting these innovations, Dr. de la Torre engaged the audience with real-world applications—such as automated feedback mechanisms and scalable assessments—that can be implemented in diverse educational contexts. The resulting discussions opened avenues for collaboration and future research, further enriching FAU’s commitment to improving education through evidence-based practices.
The event was hosted by Dr. Sangbeak Ye, an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Research Methodology and a close collaborator of Dr. de la Torre. Dr. Ye is actively recruiting students interested in psychometrics and AI-driven assessment. Students who wish to learn more or explore research opportunities are encouraged to contact Dr. Ye at sye@hitchedhike.com.
We were honored to host Dr. de la Torre and look forward to continuing these important conversations in the future. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to this successful event!
